Detroit, MI (December 5, 2019) – Team Wellness Center (Team) has received crisis center accreditation from the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), the nation’s oldest and largest suicide prevention organization.
The three-year accreditation is awarded to agencies that have been found to meet the criteria established by the AAS to be an approved crisis intervention program.
“Receiving AAS accreditation is a significant achievement that recognizes our ability to help people during a mental health crisis.” said Pamela Jastrabek, President and CEO of Team Wellness Center. “We are extremely pleased to have achieved this designation and we are proud to offer the community an accredited crisis center.”
The AAS conducted a thorough review of Team’s crisis response and suicide prevention programs including the agency’s psychiatric urgent care unit and 24-hour call center. Reviewers interviewed both staff and patients and evaluated the overall quality of care.
Team is a community mental health provider that serves to more than 15,000 Wayne County residents. Team specializes in assisting people in crisis and the agency has significantly expanded its crisis response services in 2019. In September, the agency opened a new call center to support their 24-hour crisis and suicide hotline.
The expansion in programming is a response to the need for mental health and suicide crisis intervention services in Wayne County. According to a report by the CDC, the suicide rate in Michigan increased by 33 percent between 1999 and 2016.
